AbstractFiltered 200 hPa geopotencial height and wind daily data in the 30 -90 days frequency band from a model simulation with CPTEC/COLA AGCM and from NCEP/NCAR reanalysis are used to study the model intraseasonal variability behaviour over extratropical S.H. and influences over South America. OLR intraseasonal variability results are also discussed. Correlation analysis considering centers of action obtained from teleconnection patterns reveal the influence of zonal wave four on convection over South America also simulated by the model. Extreme anomalies associated with the wave four are analysed and related to convection over SACZ. Results are discussed based on implications for climate prediction over South America.
